More bad news for the High Street...

A recent report from Retail Research warns of more High Street closures in the forthcoming months.

In Luton and Bedford this has meant empty shops where once stood :
  • Blockbuster
  • Jessops
  • HMV
In better news Dixons has recently reported increased profits. Factors for their success appear to include
  • Sale of tablets
  • Collapse of rivals such as Comet and Jessops
Both these stories widely reported in the press recently. For more information consult databases FAME ( for financial data ) and Newsbank ( for commentary )

FAME to Live Forever

Recent survey of business librarians (stay awake at the back there) has found FAME ( Financial Analysis Made Easy ) to be their favourite database. I had always considered it to be mainly of use to Accounting and Finance students. Obviously the remit is much wider. Great, for example, to use it to track HMV's fortunes....

Here's a quoute from the survey....

In relation to the question I posed asking what financial database/s you couldn’t live without, of the 10 Librarians who responded to this questions eight said FAME.

Do they still sell CD's ?

Having heard that HMV is struggling I was surprised to find a new branch in Bedford ( see left ). In fact it's just relocated down the High Street.
Rack upon rack of games and dvd's, but very few CD's on display. Sales of discs must be at an all time low as more music is downloaded.
How on earth will I spend my birthday vouchers ?
